| Frequently
Asked Questions |
| What is the
Dallas Area Phi Mu Alumnae Chapter? |
|
The
chapter consists of a group of women who all joined Phi Mu at
some point in their lives. Our members reflect all stages of
womanhood – from recent college graduates to retirees. Our
chapter allows us the opportunity to network with other women
from all walks of life.
One of the many benefits of being a member is the opportunity to
participate in the self-development activities we arrange such
as cooking, decorating or self-defense classes.
Our members enjoy getting together for social activities
such as wine tastings, movies, and lunch or dinner.
Philanthropically, we offer many opportunities for our members
to serve the community.
We
also provide an opportunity to continue the Phi Mu relationship.
A portion of the annual dues supports Phi Mu on the national
level. We offer scholarships to members and collegiate Phi Mus.
Even though there is not a local collegiate chapter, those
members who are interested in these activities can participate
in long-distance support of collegiate chapters. |
|
When are your
meetings? |
|
Our
general meetings are held four times a year: the Kick-off Coffee
(August), Christmas Coffee (December), Founder’s Day (March),
and Send-Off to Summer (June). In addition, we have social,
philanthropic and self-development activities planned throughout
the year. Review our fall calendar and you’ll have an idea of
the activities you could enjoy or benefit from. |
|
What
philanthropies do you support? |
|
We
primarily support our local Children’s Miracle Network
hospital, Children’s Hospital, by conducting fundraisers such
as an annual garage sale and collecting toys and books. We also
volunteer in the children’s playroom several times per year.
Although as a chapter we support
Children’s Hospital, participation is up to each individual. |
|
How much time
does it take to be a member? |
|
As
much or as little as you want. One of the benefits of membership
is that you can participate in as many events as you like or
just receive our newsletter. It is not necessary to serve as an
officer or on a committee and there are no attendance
requirements – you decide your level of participation. |
|
What if I don't
know any members? |
|
Remember
that we all joined the Phi Mu organization at one point in our
lives. This instantly gives you something in common with all
other members. Our group is a great opportunity to meet new
friends. |
|
There are no Phi
Mus in my area, are there? |
|
Yes.
The Dallas Area has close to 1,000 Phi Mus. In some instances
there are Phi Mus who live down the street from one another who
probably don’t even know it! |
|
How much does
membership cost? |
|
Full
membership is only $35 per year, which includes dues to support
the National Organization. If you are interested in only
receiving the newsletter at this time, a Carnation Membership is
available for $20 per year which also includes national dues.
Dues are collected in the fall. |
